Scientific Session Highlights

Highlights for this year's meeting include presentations from our three guest speakers Dr. R. Clement Darling, III, Dr.  Jason T. Lee, and Dr. Cynthia K. Shortell; the Resident/Fellow competition for the Robert B. Smith, III, MD Award; and the Presidential Address.

Spouse's Hospitality Breakfast

The Spouse's Hospitality Breakfast is open to the Physician’s guests/spouses that register in advance. Breakfast will be served on Saturday & Sunday from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the Tupelo Room. Kids are welcome too! Be sure to register in order to receive your tickets.

Welcome Reception

The Welcome Reception will be held on Friday evening, September 6 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Pavilion. This is a time to reunite with friends, colleagues and industry in a casual, social atmosphere. Enjoy hors d' oeuvres and an open beer & wine bar before dinner on your own.

Golf

In an effort to create the most cost-effective golf outing that is enjoyable for everyone, we have reserved tee times on Saturday, September 7, beginning at 2:00 pm. We will coordinate foursomes at either of the following courses:
The Oconee Course: $235+/player (on property; price includes a mandatory forecaddie) NOTE:  The cost for forecaddies is included in the greens fee but individual golfers are responsible for tipping forecaddies. $25 per golfer is recommended but the amount should be based on the level of service.

The National Course: $190+/player (5-minute drive from hotel; hotel offers free shuttle)

Sporting Clays Tournament

GVS will hold the 3rd Annual Sporting Clays Tournament on Saturday, September 7 starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds. The fee includes lunch, 20 stations/100 targets, safety equipment, Beretta shotguns, ammo, and a certified instructor per group of 5 and one all - terrain vehicle per group of 5. Please feel free to bring your own gun and eye & ear protection if you wish. Closed toe shoes are a must. The first-place team will receive prizes and the high overall winner gets their name placed on the perpetual trophy! Please register in advance; the fee is $195 per person.

Spa Appointments

Visit the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Spa to enjoy one of their signature Spa treatments or their complimentary amenities such as Steam, Sauna, Whirlpool, Indoor pool and Fitness Center. The Ritz-Carlton Spa is offering a 10% discount to GVS attendees off the full priced spa menu (not available with any other discounts or spa packages). President’s Tailgate Party

The President’s Tailgate Party starts at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7. The Tailgate Party is a family-friendly event with plenty of football on the large screens, yard games and food & drinks for people of all ages! Attire is casual – wear your favorite team shirt! Please register in advance; the fee is $75 for adults, $50 ages 13-20, and $25 for children 12 and under.

Restaurant Reservations

The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee has three restaurants on property.

  • Linger Longer Steakhouse: fine dining steakhouse
  • Georgia’s Bistro: farm to table restaurant
  • Gaby’s by the Lake: casual lake side restaurant. (Reservations for parties of 8 or more only)

Parking

Overnight valet parking for GVS hotel guests has been discounted to $20/night. If you choose to pay the resort fee, valet parking is complementary (see optional resort fee details below). Daytime parking for drive-ins is $10/day.

Hotel Amenities

The Ritz-Carlton is offering the following special concessions for all GVS attendees:

  • Complimentary high-speed internet access in guest rooms
  • Reduced valet parking fee of $20 per night
  • Ten percent (10%) discount on Spa Services

A RESORT FEE of $49/day is OPTIONAL for GVS attendees. You will be asked upon check-in if you would like to participate in the resort fee amenities which include:

  • Complementary overnight valet parking for one vehicle per room, per night;
  • Guest room internet access for multiple devices;
  • 24-hour use of Business Center;
  • One hour of tennis court usage at the nearby Reynolds Lake Oconee Tennis Center including shuttle transportation, use of racquets and practice balls;
  • Scheduled daily morning fitness class (e.g., yoga/Pilates);
  • Use of Specialized brand bicycles 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.;
  • Non-motorized lake activities (kayaks, canoes, Yolo boards, etc.);
  • Scheduled shuttle service to any Reynolds Lake Oconee golf course from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.;
  • Access to Reynolds Lake Oconee driving range and putting greens, includes range balls;
  • Use of Schiller Water Bikes on Lake Oconee;

President's Tailgate: Resort Casual – or wear your favorite team shirt!
Sporting Events: GOLF: attire for men includes mandatory collared shirt, long pants or Bermuda length shorts; women may wear sleeveless shirts, shorts or skirts with 4” max above the knee or slacks. Unacceptable attire: t-shirts, tank tops, athletic shorts, short shorts, cut-offs or denim. Metal spikes are not allowed.
SPORTING CLAYS: No open-toe footwear allowed. The sporting grounds will provide safety equipment: hearing & eye protection and shooting vests.
